Winter Seedlings

winter garden what to plant september late summer

Hi all!  The last of the tomatoes are ripening around here, so I’ve pulled out every non-fruiting plant in my little patch of soil.  I figure it’s time to get into winter planting mode.  I planted a ground cover last year, so I’m still not sure what  veggies will grow best where.  It takes so long to work out what a garden wants…

Winter plants are some of my favorite to eat, and I’m hoping to try out growing a few new favorites.  I’m planting:

what to plant in september winter vegetables

❤ Spinach.  Two kinds: Baby and Monster

❤ Cilantro: I’ve also sprinkled my garden with the seeds of my dried-out cilantro from last spring.

❤ Chard and Kale: My two favorites!  I already have a few plants growing, but kale always tastes better with a good frost!

❤ Brussel Sprouts: I have to admit.  I love Brussels.  I’ve never grown them before, and I can’t wait to see them flower.

❤ Lettuce: My favorites are any with purple or red, especially butter lettuce.

I always try to grow purple plants, I might even pick up some more purple kale.  Do you have a winter garden?
