Vintage Bunny Sign

Hobbs name painted on vintage metal sign with rabbit

About 6 months ago I found a beautiful vintage metal sign with a bunny leaping over the top.  The poor bunny had lost one of it’s feet (barely noticeable), so the lady at the antique store offered it to me for $5.  I’ve been saving in a box under my sewing table, knowing that one of my first duties as Mrs.Hobbs would be to paint and display our bunny sign.

I started by prying off the existing metal letters with an exacto knife; I wonder what the original owner’s name was?

Acrylic Latex is the best paint to use on metal, but since I wasn’t sure of my painting abilities I went with acrylic.  I played around with a few different fonts, but the metal was too wobbly to do anything fancy.  Since I used acrylic, I can scrub the paint off whenever I want a change.  I’m thinking next time I might try out stencils.

I love our new little sign, announcing our family of me, James, and our little bunny Emily.
